Corporate VSAT Solutions in Afghanistan
NEDA’s VSAT business unit has been working in Afghanistan since 2003. During these years we built our multi-technology VSAT infrastructure to cover all remote regions of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Along with the technological dominance on the market, NEDA has permanent and well-trained and VSAT specialists, who are 24/7 available to install and support satellite links even at unsecured areas. Despite the penetration of the fiber backbones, VSAT technology is still the most reliable way to be connected to the Internet/Intranet, especially in provinces.
The main alternative technologies for satellite networking in the World today. The modem and management technologies underlying both approaches have been advancing rapidly in recent years. NEDA provides VSAT services using both technologies and satellite band (e.g., C-band, Ku-band, X-band, and Ka-band), depends on customer’s needs and budgets. Technically, Ka-Band, Ku-Band, and C-Band are different frequency ranges, all of which perform just as good over Afghanistan. However, Ka-Band frequency range (satellite transponder) is much wider, which makes it more cost-efficient by providing higher throughput speeds at a lower cost. Ka-Band based service is normally 2, or even 3 times cheaper than Ku-Band or C-Band service of the same performance and reliability.
SCPC uses a separate dedicated carrier to each remote terminal (“VSAT”) to receive information from the central site, and another dedicated carrier for each VSAT to transmit information back to the central site. Both carriers are modulated in “continuous mode”. Usually, some non-standard coding techniques are used since SCPC technology was never standardized. NEDA offers SCPC Ku/C-band services mostly for high-capacity links.
In contrast, TDM/TDMA technology uses a single high-speed TDM carrier transmitted from the central site or “Hub”, from which many VSATs can receive information. For this TDM forward link, the DVB-S2 standard is most commonly used. It is also the most flexible for multiplexing many concurrent streams of traffic to different sites.
